Wellesley Island Web was conceived and implemented as a way to show the wider world some of the attractions, businesses and services available here on Wellesley Island. We hope that in time it will become a much-used resource for visitors, providing them with a way to know what to look for once they get here, and provide those of us who work and do business here a way to let people know who we are and what we offer.

This site was started in the spring of 2005 and is maintained by Steve and Sue-Ryn Burns, year-'round island residents who own live and make their living on Wellesley Island with Northern Paradise Gift Shop, Hill Woman Mail Order, caretaking, Trollworks Web-cobbing, and other various other enterprises. It is It was not started in order to make money (although we would be tickled to see it break even), but as a way to collectively show folks just how many great things the Island has to offer.

If you would like to have your Island business listed, give us a call at (315) 482-2985 or send an email. The various sorts of listings you can choose range from a simple link to your web site or pages, to a one page or even multi-page spread. The prices for being listed are quite low, basically covering the time it takes to create the listing, and something toward the cost of site maintenance,  getting listed with places like Seaway Trail, and other costs. To get a list of prices, call or email. To see a page listing pricing, click here.

We continue to get listings from local businesses and keep developing the site. As summer gets closer we are expecting more listings, and plan to put up more non-business pictures to better show the sights. The listings shown at present are mostly odd bits given to us by friends who knew we were getting this started. Several more businesses are already committed to being a part of this venture this year.

In the future we want to offer even more reasons for people to visit and use the site. A calendar of events has been started, and is kept updated all summer long. Maybe some day we can offer listings of properties for rent or for sale. We are linked with the Seaway Trail and NY tourism sites, and in their print materials. We plan to link with both the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Orleans development sites, and will also link with whatever other tourism resources we can find. Over time site has begun to register strongly with Google and other search engines.

This site is kind of like the Island itself. Small, a little funky, not much inclined to put on airs or resort to screaming hype. It will be a quiet, helpful site there to aid visitors to the Island. We don't want to bury the place in visitors, we just want those who do come to know who we are, and just how many things we have to offer.
